Message from the Principal - Lynne Pull
Dear Parents
This has been a very difficult week for us at school as we process the loss of our dearly loved colleague, Mrs Pip Brown. Class teachers have been provided with prayer resources to assist our students to share memories and talk through their grief. Our student support worker, Mrs Helen Reynolds, has been available to listen to students and support them. Our school counsellor, Mrs Di Core, will return from leave next week and will be available to counsel students if required.
A Requiem Mass will be held in St Anthony’s church on Tuesday commencing at 10.30am. A number of our staff will attend this service. We have engaged casual teachers to assist us on this day.
Staff will not be taking students to the service. However, if students wanted to attend it must be with a parent to support them through this. Please advise your child’s teachers if this is happening. However, we would like students in Years 4, 5 & 6 to form a guard of honour outside the church and on the footpath for when the cortege leaves the church. Please advise your child’s teachers if you do not want them to do this. There will still be plenty of supervision at school for those who choose to remain.
Please advise the class teachers if you are concerned about your child at this time and discuss how we can best support them. It is always hard when someone close to us leaves this life for the next.
This Sunday we ask all families to really consider joining us for Mass at 9.00am. It is Pentecost Day, the day we commemorate the Holy Spirit coming to the Apostles and giving them the courage and strength to go out into the world and preach Jesus’ message to all. This day marks the birth of Christianity. When we are open and receptive to good thoughts and those thoughts become good actions, that is the Holy Spirit animated and alive in us. The Spirit is all that is holy, helpful and hands-on. It is the divine energy that inspires us and binds us together as a community of faith. Pentecost occurs 50 days after the Resurrection and ends the Season of Easter. It is the beginning of the new church year, in essence the church’s birthday. So we will have a big birthday cake to share after Mass on Sunday.
Those students preparing for their First Holy Communion will make their commitment during this Mass. As well we have eight (8) students being baptised during the Mass. What a wonderful opportunity to share in this celebration. We encourage their classmates to be there in support.
Parents have you completed the Tell Them From Me survey yet? Please do so as the feedback is helpful to us setting plans for the future.
Unfortunately the Thoughtful Parenting workshop had to be postponed this week. However it will now go ahead on Thursday 6th June from 12.30pm – 3.00pm in the school hall. Please put it in your diary.
At the next Parent Forum meeting to be held on 11th June at 5.00pm in the staff room guest speaker Janita Thompson, Parent Partnership Lead form the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Office, will address parents. Janita will talk about the different models of parent groups in our schools and help to determine the best model for our school. Please try to come along.
Don’t forget that Tuesday 28th May is a student free day. All staff in all Catholic schools in the Tweed region will be attending Proclaim at St Joseph’s College.
Next Wednesday 22nd May there will be a Retreat Day for all Year 4 students plus any student form Years 5 or 6 preparing for First Communion.
We wish Harper Gallagher from Yr 6 all the best for the coming week as a member of the Polding AFL team at the state championships. A wonderful achievement!
May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)
God bless
Lynne

Tell them from me survey
As part of our focus on school effectiveness, St Anthony’s, Kingscliff, will be participating in an online survey for students, staff and families – Tell Them From Me® (TTFM®). The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our teachers, students and their parents think about school life, celebrate what is working well and identify areas that need work. Schools in Australia and around the world use the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve.
Here is a link to the Parent survey:
http://tellthemfromme.com/kngp
Please allow 20 mins to complete. We currently have a very small participation rate. We need more families to complete the survey so we can get increased parent voice and ensure the date more accurately targets important areas for improvement.
Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary, but we would appreciate as many families as possible giving feedback. The more feedback we are given, the better we are able to understand what we're doing well and what we need to work on to create an even better school.
Thank you for your participation and ongoing support of St Anthony's School.
Sacrament of Baptism
This week at Mass the Dore, Dodge, Hardy and Urquhart families will have their children welcomed into the Catholic Faith through Baptism. This will happen during the Mass this Sunday at 9am. The children are very excited and we can’t wait to celebrate with them on Sunday. A huge thank you to Mrs Reynolds for her guidance of the children for this important Sacrament.
If you would like for your child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, initiating them to the Catholic faith, and your child has a Catholic, Baptised Parent, please contact Gemma Ballantine gemma.ballantine@lism.catholic.edu.au and we will add your child to the group for Term 3.
First Communion Commitment Mass and Retreat
The Commitment Mass for the Sacrament of First Communion is this weekend. You can attend any of the Masses in the Parish over this weekend. The Mass of this Sunday, May 19 at 9am will be the best to attend, as the school will be running the ministries and a large number of children will be receiving Baptism during the Mass.
All Year 4 students and those preparing for First Communion will attend a Retreat day This Wednesday, May 22 in the school hall. Students are invited to wear free dress on this day. The students will work through activities related to Holy Communion and have a number of special visitors who will talk about their own faith journey and share a traditional Passover meal with the children.
Ukulele Club
We had our first ukulele club meeting on Tuesday at lunch time. We’re looking forward to more members joining next week, including our very own Mrs Barlogio!
Learning an instrument can be hard work, so it will take time, but we’re hoping to share some serious ‘chord shredding’ on our ukes next Term. Watch this space 🙂

St Anthony's Parish - Care Group
Many parents may have noticed from the Parish Bulletin, that the Parish has a Care Group which, among other things seeks to provide meals to any parishoners in need.
This could include times of family sickness, new mums struggling to provide for the family in the early days of returning home, and many other circumstances of genuine need.
Please be aware that the Care Group is very willing to help out if any families find themselves in need of this service.
