Message from the Principal - Lynne Pull
Dear Parents and Guardians,
What a fantastic couple of days we had during the week with all of classes performing in the Verse Speaking sections of the eisteddfod! It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the experience and giving their best efforts. We can be so proud of everyone with all grades achieving places. Congratulations to all the students and to all the teachers who have managed to fit in practices to ensure students’ performances were polished. Choral verse speaking is the ultimate team activity and requires so much co-operation for it to be successful. The standard of the verse speaking this year was quite outstanding. Only half a mark separated some placings in some sections.
I am sure all the parents who managed to see their children on stage enjoyed the experience. We know some of you couldn’t be there so we have decided to showcase all the Verse Speaking from every grade at our assembly on Friday 5th July – the last day of term. Put the date in your diaries and enjoy the entertainment.
Results for Verse Speaking:
- Kindergarten - 1st place
- Year 1 - 3rd place
- Year 2 - 4th place and Highly Commended
- Year 3 - 3rd place
- Year 4 - 3rd place
- Year 5 - 2nd place
- Year 6 - 1st place
Yesterday we celebrated St Anthony’s Day, beginning with a whole school Mass. Classes engaged in a variety of activities about St Anthony and all students received an ice-block. St Anthony lived some 700 years ago. Although born in Portugal he spent most of his life in Italy in the town of Padua as a Franciscan friar. He was known to have a great devotion to God, and was a great preacher who knew the Scriptures really well and was able to connect with people of all walks of life. St Anthony was known for the saying “Actions speak louder than words, so let your words teach and your actions speak.” St Anthony is also known for being the patron saint of lost things and people will often say a prayer to St Anthony when they cannot find something.
Our annual Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday. Students are encouraged to have a go at all events and to dress in their house colours. Hopefully we will have fine weather for the day. All students will catch a bus to the Walter Peate fields. Please ensure your child has sunscreen on and has their hat and water bottle with them on the day. Please support the canteen which will be operating on this day. Donations of goodies to sell will be most appreciated.
Congratulations to those students receiving their First Holy Communion this weekend. Next weekend at the Sunday Mass (23rd June), all students who have received their first communion will receive their certificates at the 9.00am Mass. This will be a school hosted Mass and we encourage all families to come along on this day to celebrate and worship as part of the wider parish community. There will be cake!
Have a great weekend everyone! Love is shown more in deeds than in words.
God bless, Lynne

St Anthony’s Feast Day
Yesterday we celebrated the feast day of our patron, Saint Anthony. We celebrated with a whole school Mass and ran some fun activities, including a scavenger hunt, creating clay sculptures, e-books and exploring quotes attributed to St Anthony- who also happens to be the patron saint of Public Speakers.
The children had a blast and should be able to tell you a bit about our patron saint.
One of St Anthony's famous quotes is:
“Let your words teach and your actions speak.”
As Christians we are challenged to walk the talk; ensuring that our actions and the way we live our lives match the words we speak. Saint Anthony gave his life to God, serving others and loving like Jesus. We are called to do the same- to love and serve.
First Communion Mass this weekend
This weekend twelve of our students will receive their First Communion, the final Sacrament of Initiation in the Catholic Church. A reminder for Saturday night families to arrive at 4:45pm for the 5pm evening Mass and Sunday morning attendees to arrive at 8:45am for the 9am Mass.
Our special prayers go with all of these students and their families.

Something to think and pray about
Trust in God
Ignatius followed the Spirit, without passing him by; thus, he was gently led to the unknown; and slowly the path opened up for him, along which he wisely went ignorantly, his heart simply focussed on Christ.
One of the most striking fruits of that way is trust. People who believe in an active, loving God have nothing to fear. They desire simply to consciously hand over their life and entrust it to God, not least out of the belief that this great God knows much better than limited humankind what is the best way to walk.
Excerpted from Living with Ignatius: On the Compass of Joy by Nikolaas Sintobin SJ (pp.28-29)
We Remember At This Time…
We pray for our fathers, those still with us and those who have gone before us, and for all those who have spiritually fathered us, and we give thanks for their gift of life to us. Lord, bless them this Father’s Day, and every day of their lives. Amen.
The 2024 Premier's Reading Challenge is open!
Dear Parents and Carers,
All children at St Anthony’s are invited to take part in this year's NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC). This is a program that encourages students to read quality fiction and non-fiction books from a selected list nominated by the premier's office.
What does the challenge involve?
To become involved in the challenge, Kindergarten to Year 2 students need to experience 30 books, 20 of these books need to come from the K-2 PRC booklists. 10 books can be their own free choice. Children can read the books on their own OR be read to by parents/carers.
For years 3-6, students need to read 20 books, 10 of these books must be on the PRC booklist and 10 books can be their own free choice.
PRC books can be found in our school library, at home and in local council libraries. For the PRC booklists, please visit: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
All books need to be read and recorded online by 23rd August 2024 (by 11:59 pm). Students will receive a certificate from the PRC team on completion. PRC Certificates will be awarded in Term 4.

Important Notice Regarding Dogs on School Grounds
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We hope this message finds you well. As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students, staff, and visitors, we would like to remind you of the regulations concerning dogs on school premises as outlined in the Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW, Section 14).
Dogs on School Grounds
According to the Companion Animals Act, dogs are generally prohibited on school grounds unless the principal has granted specific permission. Such permissions are typically reserved for:
- Assistance or service dogs
- Farm working dogs
- Visits by organised groups or programs for school incursions
- School support dogs
We understand that many families enjoy walking their dogs during school drop-off and pick-up times. However, we kindly ask that dogs remain outside the school gates. You are welcome to wait with your dog just outside the gate and arrange for your child to meet you there. This practice helps us ensure the safety and comfort of all students, particularly those who may have allergies or a fear of dogs.
Important Points for Consideration
Responsibility: Only individuals aged 18 or over can be responsible for a dog, as stated in the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (POCTAA).
Procedural Fairness: Schools are obligated to consult with parents and consider all relevant information before making decisions regarding assistance dogs.
Health and Safety: Our priority is to maintain a safe environment for everyone on school grounds.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in adhering to these guidelines. By keeping our school grounds dog-free, except for authorised circumstances, we can ensure a safer and more inclusive environment for all students.
This notice aligns with our commitment to safety and compliance with state legislation. Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining a welcoming and secure environment for our school community.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.
Thank you for your support in this matter.

SCHOOL PHOTO DAY
Flying Start
Flying Start Preschool is lucky to have such a strong relationship with St Anthony’s. We spend time most days over at the school in different capacities. We visit the library to read and borrow books, have lunch orders from the canteen, play and climb in the different playground areas and of course join in kindy sport each Friday morning. This we know gives our preschoolers many opportunities to engage in learning which gives them confidence making the transition to kindy next year and the year after.
We have spent our week celebrating First responders’ day, playing group games out on the soccer field and learning and practicing our social skills to help deal with all types of situations that challenge our preschoolers.
We love our time at Preschool !!
Kind Regards,
Jessie Grey

Misc News - Proposed STEAM workshop on the North Coast - 8 & 9 July 2024
Dear Parents
Tournament of Minds NSW are extending their support of students past and present in the form of a STEAM workshop to run in the upcoming holidays from the 8/9 July if we get sufficient numbers either on the North Coast or Mid North Coast. The potential venue will be SCU and the workshop will run from 8.30 am – 4 pm over the 2 days. These workshops have been running in Newcastle and Sydney and we are keen to ensure students across NSW have the opportunity to participate in these exciting workshops. Depending on interest, the workshop will either be a STEM based workshop which is designed for budding engineers and creative souls. The cost for this workshop would be $300 for the 2 days. Activities would include drama, art, engineering, mathematical design along with writing a script. The alternate workshop we currently run is a Writer’s Workshop which has been highly successful for budding authors. The cost for this workshop is $400 which includes the extra expense of publishing their completed work.
If this is something that you would like your child to attend, please respond to this email indicating which workshop is of interest to you. These workshops aren’t solely for TOM students but are open to all primary aged students so feel free to pass on my email to other parents.
Warm regards
Narelle
