Newsletter Term 2 Week 6 (3.6.22)
Dear Parents
Well after the glorious sunshine last weekend we have come back to reality knowing that winter has now arrived. Please ensure all jackets and jumpers are clearly marked with your children’s names as these items of clothing are frequently discarded during lunch and recess breaks and then not collected! Our lost property box swells during the winter months and it is so hard to return clothing to the rightful owners if names are not on things.
All classes are preparing a poem to perform for Verse Speaking at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts which will be held early next term at the Tweed Heads Civic Centre. We have not been able to participate the past two years so it will be great for students to have this opportunity to perform publicly once again. Please put the dates into your diaries:
Tuesday 26th July: Years 5 & 6 9.30am
Years 1 & 2 11.00am
Wednesday 27th July: Kindergarten 9.30am
Years 3 & 4 11.00am
Parents are welcome to attend. The cost is $6.00 for each day. Students must wear their dress school uniform and not sports uniform for their performances. They will travel by bus to the venue.
It will be a busy week that week as School Photos are now scheduled to take place on the Monday, 25th July. Again it is expected that all students will be wearing their full dress uniform for photos.
We have a number of students who seem to think it is OK to wear any shoes they fancy to school. We expect that parents support us with their children’s wearing of the correct shoes: black school shoes or white joggers on sports days. Sometimes there may be an extenuating circumstance necessitating the wearing of the wrong shoes. A simple message to the class teachers via Seesaw or a hand written note explaining the circumstance on such occasions is appropriate and respectful.
At this morning’s assembly Year 3 shared their learning and understanding of Pentecost with the whole school. This Sunday the feast of Pentecost is celebrated in the church. Pentecost refers to the Holy Spirit coming to the Apostles and giving them the strength and courage to move forward with their ministry and spread the Good News of Jesus. Pentecost signals the birthday of Christianity. It is also the conclusion of the Easter season which began with the Resurrection of Jesus 50 days prior. Students have been learning about the different liturgical seasons of the Church and the different colours used for the different seasons.
Well done to the AFL teams who travelled to Byron Bay during the week. Despite the muddy conditions everyone had a great time and enjoyed their games. The boys team made it through to the grand final undefeated but unfortunately could not hold on to win it, however they displayed great sportsmanship and perseverance throughout the day. Thank you to those who assisted with coaching and the support for our students.
Congratulations to Harper Gallagher and William Middleton who have made it through to the Diocesan team in Cross Country and will now compete at Eastern Creek in Sydney. We wish them well for this next stage.
We are aware that there are some very sick family members in our school community. We ask everyone to keep them in their prayers at this time. It is tough on families when someone is sick.
I have been witnessing lots of speeches being presented in classes recently. Well done to everybody for all the hard work that goes into this. There is some keen competition in some classes to be chosen for the Orators Evening which will be held on Wednesday evening 22nd June commencing at 6.00pm.
The last day for students this term is Thursday 30th June as the Friday is the Staff Retreat Day. The first day for students next term will be Tuesday 19th July.
Holiness is not the preserve of the pious or saintly – it is the small gems of care and compassion that come from our own hearts. It is the ordinary thing done with love.
God bless
Lynne

On Friday 20th May, students from Year 6 who hold leadership positions attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at Twin Towns. A variety of schools also attended, and the day was held in a large auditorium. The day was run by an energetic and highly entertaining team.
Students reflected on their individual strengths and their capacity to make changes and inspire others. School pride was celebrated and encouraged throughout the day.
Some themes that were explored:
- Step up to Integrity by showing what is right and persisting if criticised
- Serve others by taking initiative and exemplifying our school values
- Raise the standard of teamwork by using a process to enable best outcomes
Our school leaders felt inspired to implement these ideals within the St Anthony’s school environment. Thank you to Mrs Pull and our school for organising and funding this worthy day.
This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost Sunday is often called the birthday of the Church. As we come to the end of the glorious time of Easter, let us pray that God will fill us with the Spirit of the risen Christ.
God of Light, send your Spirit into our lives so that we may do your work in the world. Amen
Sunday 5th June: Pentecost Sunday
Jesus gently breathed on them and said “Receive the Holy Spirit.” In the upper room the disciples felt a “strong wind.
Year 4 Religious Education News
Last Wednesday as an entry event in their Religious Education unit of work, ‘The Eucharist’ the Year 4 students celebrated a meal together in connection to the scripture story of The Last Supper. This unit develops students’ understanding of the celebration of the Eucharist. The unit focuses on the key parts of the Mass and explores the ways Christ is present.
After their shared meal the students returned to class and began to write up what they know about the Eucharist and what they want to learn about the Eucharist, this was a great activity to launch into their learning.

The last term, Year 3 have been looking at the Easter Story, The Resurrection and finally Pentecost. The children investigated the stories and represented their understandings in artform, action, singing and the written word.
The assembly this morning was a positive experience for all the students and they clearly understand that “ The Spirit of the Lord is Great and Mighty!
